As you can see from this picture, the road works on Flixton Road extended a good way down the road.

 

I haven't followed the story closely but it has been reported that a substantial amount of concrete had been poured

 

inadvertently into the sewage pipes.

 

When I say substantial I do mean A WHOLE LOT - checkout THIS PICTURE taken with a remote controlled CCTV camera, published

 

by the Messenger Newspaper on 24th February this year

 

This has been a tremendous problem for United Utilities to solve.

 

In fact as the Messenger Newspaper reported on 21st March the problem was so severe that United Utilities had to bring in a

 

specialist team of engineers from Ireland to remove the blocked pipe and replace it with new.

 

To get some idea of the problem facing them take a look at the picture in the link above and then realise that this mess is 7

 

metres underground and above the sewage pipes is all manner of electricity and water pipes that have to be avoided.
